Death, Betrayal and Tourism at Conwy Castle

The summer of 2019 had been filled with new adventures, including Chloe flying for the first time in her life; enjoying the stunning weather as we walked along the seafront in Southend and spending time with my parents and friends. As we were nearing towards the end of our time in the UK, we were lucky enough to go on a family holiday to Llandudno (pronounced Clan-did-no) in North Wales.   The evening before we left, I had been on a nice walk along the River Thames and into the Broadway (the local high street) when the skies suddenly darkened, and an ominous storm seemed to suddenly roll in. With a slight sense of urgency, I began to make my way back home when all hell broke loose and the sky seemed to menacingly descend upon the world. Huge raindrops fell in rapid succession, with anyone who was unfortunate enough to be outside (myself included) becoming drenched in seconds. The storm’s power reached its true awesomeness when looking out across the river and seeing how the surface was

Mystery, Murder and Intrigue at the Tower of London.

The Tower of London The summer of 2017 was a very intriguing year for us as it was the year that we developed a huge passion for castles and began learning more about their incredibly complex, extensive and blood-soaked histories. It was the end of July 2017, and Vera, Alex and I were excited for our trip to the Tower of London. Vera and I had travelled over to Tower Hill station from Southend-On-Sea and Alex joined us from Hainault. Whilst waiting for Alex to join us, Vera and I had exited the station and sat on a bench in a small green park opposite the Tower. The Tower stood menacingly in the distance, contrasting aggressively with the modern glass skyscrapers of central London. It was an incredible sight to behold as the ancient, 10 th century brickwork stood as a sharp reminder of England’s blood-soaked Norman beginnings and in the distance the Shard, a glass skyscraper standing unique in the London skyline, stood as a reminder of the ingenuity of modern engineering. Kendal Alex and I, following our wonderful adventures to the land of Devon in February of 2017, decided to plan another adventure, this time to Kendal, in the Lake District. My flight had been booked for the weekend before our week in Kendal. I had my bags packed and was looking forward to having a nice week off, exploring a new place and getting a chance to just relax. 1. Just one of the beautiful views of Kendal. On the morning of our journey up to Kendal, I headed over to Alex’s with my suitcase. The weather was, once again, simply stunning. There was a light breeze which aimlessly carried the enticing aroma of freshly mown grass and the heat of the summer. The skies were blue, and we were just looking forward to arriving in Kendal. We had picked up a few drinks and snacks for the journey, jumped in the car and headed off. The roads were quite clear, considering how wonderful the weather was. After travelling for a few hours, we ended up arriving in Kendal. My phone had been a helpf

Rochester Castle

August 2017 was a very memorable summer for us as we had accomplished a vast number of new goals – visit a different country, climb a mountain, get promotions at work and stay in a relatively secluded log cabin right on the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland. The final week of our holidays was spent in Kent, as mentioned in previous posts. After arriving in Kent, getting to know the area better and visiting some castles and other historic places, we decided to visit Rochester Castle. Alex, Vera and I had enjoyed some great sights and moments throughout our week. Vera and I live and work in Russia, so getting to return home and experience some of the day-to-day life of England was a welcome treat for us, especially as it is what I grew up with and gives me a nice sense of nostalgia. Kent had certainly lived up to our expectations and was a great way to cap off our great holiday in the UK. 1. A standard car park in a not-so-standard location. The sunlight was shining aimlessly through the s
